Understanding the Thyroid-Adrenal Connection

For most people, stress is a normal part of daily life. It can be emotional, mental or physical.

The body’s natural response to any type of stress is to flood it with hormones to prepare systems to evade or confront danger. This is known as the “fight-or-flight” response. When we are faced with a challenge, our bodies produce larger quantities of the chemicals cortisol, adrenaline, and noradrenaline from the adrenal glands. These trigger an increased heart rate, heightened muscle preparedness, sweating, and alertness all of which improve the ability to respond to a hazardous or challenging situation.

Over time, however, constant exposure to stress (or perceived stress… ever been worried about something that didn’t turn out as bad as you thought?) can tax the adrenal glands, forcing them to over-produce or under-produce the stress hormones at the wrong time. The theory is that they are unable to keep pace with the demands of perpetual fight-or-flight arousal. As a result, they can’t produce quite enough of the hormones you need to feel your best, leaving you fatigued.

In fact, hormonal imbalances are often the result of many health issues – not just feeling fatigued. For example, chronic cortisol imbalance can alter immune, digestive, reproductive function, and growth processes, as well as lower bone density and increase blood pressure and cholesterol. And yes, it can even affect thyroid hormone production. The thyroid gland regulates the body’s metabolic rate as well as heart and digestive function, muscle control, brain development, mood and bone maintenance.

So, if you are feeling chronically stressed and your immune system is in overdrive, Bluebonnet has two unique formulas that work with the body’s endocrine system to help lower stress-related responses. Each formula contains complementary, essential nutrients plus adaptogenic herbs that work to support both the thyroid and adrenal health to help recharge and revive your body so that you can take on the day.

In an effort to support both Thyroid and Adrenal health, Bluebonnet has introduced the two newest members of the Targeted Choice® Whole Food-Based Line…

Bluebonnet’s Targeted Choice® Thyroid Boost Capsules are specially formulated with unique, sustainably harvested or wildcrafted botanical extracts, free-form L-tyrosine, as well as iodine from a proprietary blend of glandular powder, potassium iodide and brown seaweeds (i.e., bladderwrack and kelp). Freeze-dried, thyroxin- and BSE/TSE-free glandular powder sourced from pasture-fed cows in New Zealand not treated with hormones or antibiotics was integrated to help maintain healthy thyroid hormone levels that are already within the normal range. ♦

Bluebonnet’s Targeted Choice® Adrenal Support Capsules are specially formulated with a unique blend of sustainably harvested or wildcrafted herbal extracts that help promote a healthy response to stress while also maintaining healthy energy levels. Essential nutrients important for the normal production of adrenal hormones were also incorporated to optimize adrenal gland function critical to helping the body adapt to stress in a balanced way. ♦
