Monday, February 21, 2005SUGAR LAND, TEXAS, February 21, 2005 – Bluebonnet Nutrition Corporation is proud to be the first nutritional supplement line in North America to launch standardized amounts of nucleotides, nucleosides and nucleic acids, the necessary backbone structures for RNA, DNA and ATP. Bluebonnet introduces Nucleotide Complex 300 mg Vcaps to help support gut, liver and immune health as well as maintain lean muscle and sustain the body’s energy production.
“Nucleotides are the building blocks of life,” states Gary Barrows, President. “They are involved in almost all cellular processes and play a major role in structural, metabolic, energy and regulatory functions in the body.”
Nucleotides are small weight biomolecules that consist of a phosphate group, a sugar (ribose) and a nucleic acid base (adenosine, cytosine, guanine and thymine). They make up the units of RNA (required for building protein) and DNA (required for growth and cell division). Additionally, the nucleic acid, adenosine, is part of the energy molecule, adenosine triphosphate (ATP), which serves as the primary fuel for all cellular processes.
Nucleotides also act as physiological mediators, such as in the regulation of blood flow, smooth muscle activity and glycogen synthesis. The fact that human milk contains 2-5% nucleotides and their recognition as critical for tissue growth; they have been an integral component in most infant formulas on the market. Research has shown that the addition of nucleotides to infant formulas has been instrumental in enhancing the growth of babies who were significantly below their required weight based upon gestational age. Nucleotides can be synthesized, recycled, or salvaged in the body, as well as obtained from the diet or more effectively through supplementation.
Mr. Barrows, adds, “Most cells can synthesize nucleic acid bases to make nucleotides, but it is complex and costly to the body. Therefore, in times of greater need, such as stress, growth, certain disease conditions, etc., supplementing nucleotides is essential to meet the higher demand. In addition, rapidly growing tissues (GI tract, blood cells, bone marrow, etc,) have a limited capacity to synthesize nucleotides and may not be capable to keep up with the greater demand without necessary supplementation.”
