Children's Whole Food-based Nutrition
Children need a variety of moderately balanced foods for optimal energy, growth and development. The recommended Dietary Reference Intakes (DRIs) for children – which include both macronutrients (e.g., carbohydrate, protein and fat) and micronutrients (e.g., vitamins and minerals) –are firmly established. However, it is no secret that, in today’s fast-paced world, many children’s diets are comprised of processed foods, sweets, and junk food – rather than a well-balanced, nutritious food plan. Even if children do “eat healthy,” Western diets often lack the fruits, vegetables, whole grains and fish necessary to provide the nutrients needed for optimal health and wellness. (Micronutrients roles in children’s growth and development are listed here).
Prestigious research groups, including the National Cancer Institute, urge Americans of all ages to eat varied, well-balanced diets rich in dark, leafy greens, fruits and whole grains. These whole foods provide a multitude of active components – called phytonutrients – that have been shown to play vital roles in healthy maintenance of the human body. Whole food based supplements, like Bluebonnet Super Earth® Rainforest Animalz®, include these super fruits and vegetables that help bridge the nutrient gaps in children’s daily diets.

The Rainforest Animalz Safari
Cody’s eyes lit up with anticipation. His first safari into the wild and wondrous rainforest was about to begin. This, he thought, is the last frontier on Earth. What nutritional riches would he discover? The Rainforest Animalz® showed him the way. Gus the Gorilla munched on deep, dark leafy greens. Ella the Elephant gathered grasses and fruit with her long, flexible trunk. Then, she squirted Cody with water from the cool, clear river. Cody plunged in, swimming upstream with Phoebe the Fish. Jenny the Jaguar joined them and showed Cody how to spot the monkey fish and pink river dolphin. When they emerged, Teddy the Toucan showered them with seeds and berries plucked right off the tree – and a lively game of catch-the-berries ensued.
As Cody and the Rainforest Animalz® continued their trek through the jungle and played in the warm sun, the secret became clear: If children grew up in the pristine rainforest, they’d get all of the nutrients they need for proper growth and development from hearty whole foods like fruits, vegetables, whole grains and fish. Nutrients that are often missing from today’s diets. “It’s all right here,” said Cody. “Important vitamins, minerals and good fats from yummy whole foods – plus powerful ‘super’ fruits and vegetables that kids need every day.”
“You should have a really good multivitamin,” advised Gus, “so kids can grow gorilla strong. That way they’ll get all their basic nutrients – especially if they don’t always eat right like I do.” “Kids also need calcium for building strong bones,” said Ella. “And lots of vitamin D,” squawked Teddy, turning his colorful beak toward the hot rainforest sun. “Plus, you always need extra vitamin C for immune protection. You never know what’s out there,” noted Jenny, staring into the deep dark jungle. “Hey,” gurgled Phoebe, “don’t forget the DHA-rich fish oil. Not everyone is chock full of healthy omega-3 fatty acids like I am.” Yeah, but they’ve all got to taste really good, thought Cody, eyeing the juicy tropical fruits that he’d come to love. And that is how Bluebonnet’s Super Earth® Rainforest Animalz® were “discovered.” So it’s only natural that these whole food based chewable dietary supplements for children are made the way nature intended.
